Why Are Dissections Used And How Will They Help In The Future?
These past few class periods we’ve been taking part in a frog dissection. GROSS!!! (I know!) But, even with the grossness of the whole thing, we learned the importance of transferring our knowledge of dissections from a frog to modern day emergency dissections.
In class, Mrs. Seilhan kept saying, “Maybe some of ya’ll will be going into the medical field.” I’m sorry, Mrs. Seilhan, but NO WAY!!!
Frog dissections are important for those people who intend on going into the surgical work field, like I planned on doing before I actually cut open a creature! Frog dissections help schools know and understand the functions and uses of the organs and body parts.
In the close future, most of say we want to be doctors and nurses and some say they want to be veterinarians, but now that I have seen the inside of a frog I plan to stay with music!!!!
Semester Project Blog
Our semester project consisted of worms, a lot of food and patience!
In our semester project, Beth Peterson and myself learned that worms don’t like sugary foods. They enjoy eating healthy-like foods. (ex. strawberries-which happened to be the sample that won-,vegetables, fruits, etc.)
Materials: 10 oz. of each food, (bread, strawberries, chocolate, french fries, gummy worms, and soil.)
Our investigation began with a problem. After many bad ideas, we came to the conclusion that we wanted to “care” for worms!
Our problem: Which food is most favored by the worms?
Hypothesis: We think the worms will favor the soil more than any other food selection because the worms live in and around the soil.
The procedure for testing this hypothesis: 1) Measure 10 grams of each selected food
2) Disperse each food equally, giving each team of worms a different food choice.
3) Leave the food in the designated area and allow the worms access to the food.
4) Measure, the next day, the amount of food the worms have eaten, and record.
5) Continue measuring the mass and rate the worms eat the foods.
Conclusion:
Our experiment, though not the best idea, did not turn out how we expected. We assumed that, because worms live in and around soil, that they would be more prone to favoring soil. Gummy worms, french fries, bread, and chocolate, as well as soil were no competition for the strawberry. We assume that the reason they favored the strawberry is because it is a fruit and it has nutrients to provide the worm. Our hypothesis was wrong.
If we could change anything we would select healthier foods, and include ant repellent in the materials!!!!
Changes in The Future? Whoa…To Earth?
From history, we have learned that, not only is this earth is still in action, but we have learned that the vast amount of time is very crucial for studying land formations and the history of Earth. A special change, in my opinion, in about 5 billion years, would be that the volcano, Mauna Loa, in Hawaii, will eventually erupt. I believe, though, it will be an eruption so great that it spreads far and wide, covering all of the volcano, but then, eventually, drying and hardening, covering the formation, leaving a massive island.
This is just an opinion about my beliefs towards Earth and its’ changes.
